Eras Cochran

Eras Cochran

Eras M. Cochran belonged to the big band era when her favorite movie stars were Bette Davis and Robert Taylor.

At five years of age she began to act in school, church, and in the front yard. By twelve years old, she produced, directed, and acted in neighborhood plays. At the same time, she wrote her first poem in the sixth grade.

Acting and directing were her main interests. She received her BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, Michigan, her home town. She ventured into the professional world of stage, radio, and TV commercials. She wrote articles, prose poetry and stories. The Chicago NBC-TV monthly newspaper published one of her articles. Another short prose poem, stolen from her apartment building storage room, ended in The Saturday Evening Post.

After directing and acting in plays in the United States and overseas, she received her MA in Theatre Arts from CSUS. Eras decided to obtain her teaching certificate for a steady income. She wrote on the sideline and taught the sixth grade. She was assigned teacher-in-charge and special drama teacher when the school had extra money. She conducted Creative Drama classes at CSUS, San Juan Unified School District and other Northern California school districts. Her participants were students, teachers, nurses, parents, and administrators.

Eras continues to write playlets, stories, poetry and lyrics to her composed music. She directs and performs in skits, and is writing her memoir.

Eras is a vegetarian for ethical reasons. During the past forty years she has rescued about twenty-five dogs and thirty-five cats. She kept all of them as well as finding owners for other pets. At present 17 1/2 year-old Sugar, her icy-blue eyed white short-haired cat and Bobo, her nine-year-old, adorable Maltese keep her company.
