Mary Gillis

Mary Gillis

She’s just and old gal, from a small Kansas Town.

Part lover, part writer, part circus clown.

Her first love was poetry, and she did her best.

From top of a mountain viewing what God has blest.

But now she is old, and not very well,

She doesn’t write much, but just ask and she’ll tell,

“I’m a writer.”

Mary L. Gillis writes songs and poems that have a Biblical slant, and/or make a statement about faith. The ideas often come as God breathed messages put upon her heart. Her poems portray healing and the love of God.

She was born in Wakefield, KS in 1930. She attended a small rural school and graduated high school in Sliver Lake, KS at the age of sixteen. A youthful marriage produced three children. The family moved to the Sacramento area in 1961 where Mary went back to school. She started working for the Sacramento Public Library in 1967 and retired twenty-six years later. She has always been interested in the wonders of God’s creation and the beauty of the written word. Mary writes Christian music, poetry and short stories.
